Find lore facts that contradict each other across your world
The capital is a seaport in one chapter and three days from any coast in another, and each page looks fine alone. Here is how to keep lore as a list of small facts with a time span, so that real contradictions show up and rumours that are simply wrong do not.
Why this works
A contradiction is two things said about the same subject at overlapping times, which a person skimming pages cannot see but a plain list of small facts shows at once. Marking what characters merely believe keeps deliberate lies and rumours from being flagged as mistakes.
When not to use it
Skip it for a short, single-author story you can hold in your head, or for a world whose point is that nobody can trust what they are told. Then read it through once and let the unreliable narrator do the work.
