Draw a jagged lightning bolt with a double flash and thunder that arrives late
A storm level needs lightning that looks different every time and is still easy to test. A straight line is dull, a random scribble is wrong, and thunder at the same instant as the flash feels cheap. Here is a way to build a bolt from a seed, light the sky like the real thing flickers, and delay the rumble by distance.
Why this works
Lightning looks right because it bends at every scale, a few large turns and many small ones, and because light travels faster than sound. The flash comes first, the thunder follows, and the gap tells the viewer how far away it was.
When not to use it
Skip it when the strike is a game rule, such as a bolt that hurts the player on a known spot, or when flashing could bother players. Then use a calm, fixed warning mark and a gentle dimming instead.
