Someone joins mid-game and everyone's animations start from the first frame
Sending a body's pose every frame wastes bandwidth, so games only announce changes. Then a newcomer, or a player whose connection hiccuped, sees the wrong frame or the wrong moment of every loop. Here is what to announce so any screen can work out where an animation must be right now.
Why this works
A start time and a shared clock fix the whole picture at every later moment, so nothing needs repeating. Sending only the starting point of each animation saves bandwidth and gives anyone, however late they arrive, the same frame as everyone else.
When not to use it
Wrong for animations driven by something else: a character following the player's stick, or a ragdoll reacting to physics. Their pose comes from live input, not time, so send the input or the pose itself.
