Build a kill streak that keeps going only if you keep up the pace
A score multiplier that rises with each quick kill should drop when the player slows down. If the time allowed stays the same, it is a gentle reward; if it shrinks, it is a challenge. This entry shows how to count the streak, when it breaks, and what the screen should show.
Why this works
A streak is a promise to keep going, and the pace is what the player is really being scored on. Making the allowed gap shrink as the streak grows turns a gentle bonus into rising tension, and showing the streak ending as soon as time runs out keeps the screen honest.
When not to use it
Skip it in calm or story-driven games, or where hunting for streaks would push players into reckless play. Rewarding careful clears, with a bonus for taking no damage, suits those games better than rewarding speed.
