Give the player who killed a creature a short head start on its loot
In an open world, someone always sneaks up and grabs the drop of a fight they did not win. Locking the loot forever is just as bad, because a disconnected player blocks it for everyone. A short claim that dissolves by itself, and a clear rule for who owns the kill, solves both.
Why this works
A fight earns its prize by effort, so the prize should go first to whoever put in the most, not to whoever struck last. A short, clear head start settles the quarrel yet ends soon enough that no one can sit on a corpse forever.
When not to use it
Skip it in a friendly co-op game or a peaceful world where grabbing first is part of the humour, or where everyone shares loot anyway. Let all fighters take freely, or split the drop automatically.
