Spielerando

The tooltip says 100 percent, yet the player fails, or shows 0 percent but wins

Rounding a chance for display can promise something the game does not keep, and players remember every time it happened. This shows how to print chances in plain words that never claim certainty or impossibility, even when the numbers are very close to it.

Why this works

Players treat a printed chance as a promise. Rounding can turn something rare into a certainty or an impossibility in their eyes, so only true zero and true one may be shown as such, and everything else needs wording that stays honest.

When not to use it

Skip it when showing a number would hurt the experience, such as a hidden surprise that should stay a surprise, or when the chance changes too fast to read. Then describe the feeling in words, or show nothing at all.
