Work out when the tide is high and when boats may enter the harbor

A harbor game that follows real hours needs a tide that rises and falls on a believable schedule, not once per day, with higher and lower tides over the weeks. Players then want to know when the next high water comes. Here is a small formula for the water level and a way to find the times that matter.

Why this works

Real tides come from the moon and the sun pulling at different rhythms, and the two together make the strong and weak tides of the month. Adding two smooth waves reproduces that, and scanning forward is simpler than solving it.

When not to use it

Skip it when you need a real harbor's exact times, or when the game has no real calendar. Use true tide tables for a known place, or a plain fixed rise and fall that the player can learn.
