Chase a moving target smoothly with a speed limit and no overshoot
A companion, camera or cursor that smoothly follows can zoom across the screen when the target teleports and swing past it when the target stops. Here is how to follow gently, cap the speed, and arrive without a wobble, in two dimensions.
Why this works
A follower that glides in softly feels alive, but one that is never allowed to rush cannot catch up. Limiting how far ahead it may look gives a steady top pace far away and the natural slowing near the goal.
When not to use it
Skip it when the follower should stick to its goal at all times, like a health bar over a character or a held item, because it always lags a little. Attach those directly to what they follow.
