Let a turret or dial swing to its new angle with a spring, taking the short way
A springy dial or turret that has to cross from just below a full turn to just above it will often spin the long way round or snap by a whole turn. Here is how to give angles a springy feel that still takes the short path and keeps its swing.
Why this works
Angles live on a circle, so two ways round lead to the same spot and the short one is the natural choice. Springing the gap between the two angles, not the angle itself, keeps the swing on the short side by construction.
When not to use it
Not when the long way is the point, such as a safe dial that must be turned fully, a wheel that counts turns, or a spinner that keeps spinning. There the total turn matters, so keep a plain running count instead.
