Spielerando

Catching a chill while the weather keeps changing, rolled just once

Danger that rises and falls as the player walks through storms, cold nights and warm huts is awkward to roll step by step, and the results depend on how often you look. This shows a way to roll a single time and still get the right odds however the danger changes.

Why this works

Danger that changes over time still adds up: each moment contributes its own small share of risk, and the event happens when the total reaches a hidden limit drawn at the start. Because the draw is made once, the odds do not depend on how often you look.

When not to use it

Skip it when players should be able to read and plan around the danger, such as a visible meter that always fills the same way. Then use a plain counter, and keep the hidden roll for harm that is meant to feel like bad luck.
