Launching yourself with your own explosion, strength by distance

Shoot the floor at your feet and fly. Sounds fun, but the blast either does nothing when you stand on the ground, throws you the wrong way, or breaks when the blast is exactly under you. Here is how to aim the push and when it must be bent upward.

Why this works

A blast feels fair when the shove follows what the eye sees: it points away from the centre of the explosion and fades the farther you stand. Measuring from the middle of the body, not the feet, makes a shot at the floor push upward, as players expect.

When not to use it

Skip it when the level depends on fixed heights, such as a puzzle with one intended route. A player who can fly with every blast skips your design. Give such games a fixed launch pad instead of a push that depends on distance.
