Check that a story deadline still leaves days to wander and explore
A story that says "the storm hits in two weeks" can quietly turn an open world into a race, because walking and sleeping eat days nobody counted. Here is how to find out, before release, whether a careful player can still explore.
Why this works
A deadline is honest only if it counts what the player must really spend: walking, work and the rest the game forces on them. Counting work alone makes a deadline that looks generous on paper and leaves no room to wander in play.
When not to use it
Skip it when the clock is meant to hurt, such as a desperate race where wandering should cost the player the game. And if the world is tiny, a slack rule only adds numbers; let the deadline simply be tight.
