Platforms that crumble after you step on them, with a fair last jump
A crumbling bridge adds tension to a jump route, but the timing has to be fair: the countdown must not restart when the player steps off and on, and a jump pressed in the last moment should still count. Here is the timer, the grace and the return of the platform.
Why this works
Tension comes from a clock the player cannot change, so the first step starts it and nothing later restarts it. A short grace after the break respects that a press made in the last instant was a real decision, just a little late.
When not to use it
Avoid it where players must stop and think on the platform, such as a puzzle room or a rest area. A clock there turns calm into panic. Use a platform that stays and break it by a deliberate action instead.
