Let players skip scenes with heavy content without breaking the plot
A horror story can offer to skip or soften scenes on request, but cutting a scene out of a branching story can leave a dead end or hide an ending. Here is how to give every flagged scene a safe way past it and to check each setting.
Why this works
A skip is only kind if the story still holds together afterwards. Every hidden scene needs a clear way on, so the player is spared the hard part without being lost, and testing each setting proves nobody lands in a gap.
When not to use it
It does not help when the heavy scene is the plot itself, so that nothing remains once it is cut. Then offer a clear warning and a way to leave the game instead. A summary also cannot replace a scene that later scenes depend on.
