Count "bring me five" correctly when the player already owns some
The player picks up the quest with three herbs already in the bag, then sells two, then finds more than five. Does the quest count what they hold, what they found, or both? Here are the two counting rules and what turn-in should take away.
Why this works
"Bring me" and "gather" are two different promises. One asks what the player holds right now, the other asks what the player did after saying yes. Naming the promise in the quest data lets the same count be honest in both stories.
When not to use it
Skip the two modes when the item exists only inside this quest and cannot be bought, sold or carried over from before. Then a plain counter is enough and the extra choice only confuses whoever writes the quest.
