Drag to look around a room: the glide after letting go starts wrong or never ends
Dragging a finger or mouse to look around is natural on phones and for slow, careful games, and a little glide after letting go makes it feel real. But pausing before release should not fling the view, and the glide should end for good. Here is how to measure the speed and stop it.
Why this works
The glide should continue what the hand was doing at the moment of letting go, not what it did a moment before. So speed is taken from the last short stretch only, and the slowing-down is cut off at a point where it can no longer be seen.
When not to use it
Do not add a glide when the player needs to stop on an exact spot, such as hunting for a small clue in a still picture, or on a map with precise pins. The drift overshoots. Stop dead on release there.
