Spielerando

Keep an album of discovered items across new games without spoiling secrets

Players replay story games to see what they missed, and a collection page tells them how far they got. It must survive starting over, add up what several runs found, and show a percentage that does not give away how many secrets exist or hit one hundred early.

Why this works

A collection only motivates if progress is never taken back. Keeping finds in a layer that a new game cannot reset, and rounding down, makes every number the player sees an honest minimum, so hundred percent means everything and the secrets stay secret.

When not to use it

Skip it when every run is meant to stand alone, as in a game where each new start is a fresh life with no memory. Also skip the percentage if players could feel pushed to hunt for numbers instead of enjoying the story.
