Equip a two-handed weapon and put the shield back without losing anything

Equipping a big two-handed axe has to move the shield out of the way, and if the bag is full something must not just disappear. Equipment swaps go wrong in the corners: what moves where, and what happens when it cannot. This entry settles the rules.

Why this works

Gear is a swap between hands and bag, so nothing should ever be created or lost. Working out everything that moves before touching anything, and refusing as a whole if it does not fit, keeps the swap trustworthy.

When not to use it

Do not swap automatically when a change takes time or matters in a fight, such as switching gear while enemies are near. A fast, silent swap removes the weight of the choice. Make it cost a moment, or lock it in combat.
