A trade caravan arrives and its destination is gone: where do the goods go?
In a living world, the market a caravan was heading for can burn down while it is on the road. If the goods simply vanish, players lose trust in the whole economy. This entry shows how to keep every crate accounted for, whatever happens.
Why this works
Trust in an economy comes from knowing that nothing vanishes without a reason. If every loss is written down at the one place it can happen, the player can follow the goods and the world feels fair even when it burns.
When not to use it
Do not bother in a game with only symbolic trade, where goods are a number on a screen and no one asks where they went. Also skip it when losses are the point, as in a raid game where caravans are meant to be plundered.
