Let a boss call helpers, but never more than a fixed number at once

A necromancer who summons skeletons should keep the room busy, not bury the hero in thirty of them. The catch is that helpers take a moment to appear, and counting only the visible ones lets the cap be broken. This entry shows what to count and when to spend the wait.

Why this works

A limit has to count everything that is promised, not only what is already there. Otherwise two quick calls both see room and together overshoot. Not spending the wait on an empty call lets the boss react to a loss.

When not to use it

Skip the limit when overwhelming numbers are the point, such as a swarm fight where the player is meant to fight through endless waves. Then limit the helpers by the room's space or by time.
