Make a boss hit harder when the fight drags on, without cheap surprises

A boss that never changes lets players win by patience alone, and a sudden enrage after some hidden time feels like an ambush. A gradual rise that the player can see, and a clock that stops when the fight itself stops, keeps it fair. This entry has the numbers and the clock rules.

Why this works

Pressure should come from the player's own pace, so the clock must count only the time they can act. Rising in visible steps lets them see it coming and choose: hurry, or change plan. Surprise would feel like a cheat.

When not to use it

Skip it in fights built on patient, careful play, or in games with players who need time to learn. There, punishing slowness works against the design; add a clear end or a rewarding new phase instead.
