Tilting the 3D map down low shows the sky and the empty world beyond the edge

A low, nearly horizontal view of a strategy map looks dramatic, but it shows the horizon, the sky and the empty space past the map's edge, and the visible ground grows huge. Here is how far the view reaches for a given height and tilt, and a lower tilt limit that follows from it.

Why this works

The top of the screen is just a line of sight, and a line pointing up never meets the ground. Working out where the highest line lands tells you how flat the camera may look for its height, so the world always fills the picture.

When not to use it

Skip the limit when the sky is wanted, such as a flight game or a scenic horizon with a painted backdrop. Then keep the low angle and draw a real sky and distant land instead of forbidding the view.
