Three 30 percent dodge items must not add up to a 90 percent dodge

Players collect several items that each help them dodge. Adding the numbers makes the build untouchable, and ignoring the stack makes the items pointless. The right combination is a small formula, plus a floor and a ceiling so the game stays a game.

Why this works

Each item is another chance to escape, and you are caught only when every one of them fails. Combining the failures rather than adding the successes means more items always help, each a little less than the last, and the total can never pass certainty.

When not to use it

Skip it when dodging is not a dice roll but a skill, as in games where the player steps aside in time. Percentages then hide what actually protects them. Reward real movement, and keep a flat reduction of damage for items.
