Catch speech lines that would show a raw placeholder or break on a stray brace

Dialogue that fills in the hero's name or gold is easy to break: a misspelled name shows up as code in the box, a missing closing bracket eats the rest of the line, and a story line that wants a real bracket cannot print one. This entry shows how to scan lines and how to write a real bracket.

Why this works

Text with gaps to fill is a tiny language, and a language needs one clear rule for every special mark, including how to write the mark itself. When a scan follows that rule, mistakes show up before players do, and a bad gap shows a visible marker instead of code.

When not to use it

If your text never needs to fill in anything, or only one fixed name, plain writing is enough and the extra rule just adds a way to make mistakes. When many languages are involved, use the tool your platform already offers for filling gaps.
