Measure how big a save really is and find which part makes it grow

Browser storage has a hard limit, and a long adventure with many notes, maps and visited places can hit it without warning. This entry shows how to measure a save honestly, warn the player in time, and point at what to shrink first.

Why this works

A storage limit counts what is actually stored, not how many letters you typed, and some letters take more room than others. Measuring the real size against a budget set well below the limit gives a warning while there is still time, and naming the biggest parts shows what to shrink.

When not to use it

Skip it when saves stay tiny whatever the player does, such as a score and a level number. Then measuring is wasted effort. If saves can grow large, store them as files or on a server rather than trimming them to fit.
