Spielerando

Other players stutter and teleport instead of moving smoothly

You only get news about teammates a few times per second, so drawing them where the last news said makes them hop. This entry shows how to draw them slightly in the past so they glide, and what to do when the news stops coming.

Why this works

The eye forgives a picture that is a little old far more than one that jumps. Drawing others slightly in the past means you almost always have a point on each side to glide between, trading a tiny lag for smooth motion.

When not to use it

Wrong when every fraction of a second of delay hurts, like a fast shooter or a fighting game aimed at frame-exact play. There, predict ahead instead, and accept that corrections will sometimes show.
