Build a balance meter that breaks a tough enemy open after enough hits
Chipping at an enemy that blocks everything can feel pointless. A balance meter turns pressure into progress: it fills, breaks the enemy open for a while, and drains when you stop. This entry fixes when it drains, what a break does, and what hits during the break are worth.
Why this works
Pressure should add up to something even when no damage gets through. A meter turns patient attacking into progress, and because it drains when the player stops, it rewards staying on the offence. A break is the payoff, so it must not be repeatable at once.
When not to use it
Skip it for weak enemies or short fights, where it only adds a bar nobody watches, and in games where the player should win by dodging, not by pressure. Use plain health there, or one clear weak spot to hit.
