I pressed jump at the very edge but the host says I was already falling
A short grace period after walking off a ledge makes jumping feel fair, but on a slow connection the grace period is eaten up by the travel time of the message and the jump is refused. The grace must grow with the connection, within a limit, and a grace jump may only happen once. Here are the numbers and the check.
Why this works
The player pressed the button when the ground was still under them, and a late message should not turn a fair press into a fall. Judging by the moment of the press, with a small cap, forgives delay without opening the door to jumps from thin air.
When not to use it
Do not widen the window in a game of tight, exact platforming where a late jump is a mistake the player should learn from. Keep the plain forgiveness there and ask for a better connection.
