Spielerando

Start a second playthrough with some things kept and the world reset

After the ending the player starts again with their best sword and some gold, but the world must be fresh. Keep the sword while the blacksmith who forged it has forgotten you, and the dialogue breaks. Here is a reset that keeps chosen things, caps what is too strong, and notices what depends on what.

Why this works

What you keep is only safe together with the reasons it stands on. A kept thing whose cause is erased breaks the story, so the carry-over follows each kept item back to what it needs, then either lets it go or brings that along.

When not to use it

Skip it when the second run is meant to be a clean start with nothing carried, such as a roguelike where every run stands alone. Also skip it for stories whose ending changes the world for good; there offer a new save, not a reset.
