A homing missile circles the target forever instead of hitting it
The missile turns toward you as fast as it can and still never lands, spinning around you like a moth. Here is why it happens, a quick test that says in advance whether a hit is even possible, and what the game can do about it.
Why this works
A missile can only turn so fast, so it flies a circle of fixed size at best. A target inside that circle can never be reached by simply turning toward it; the missile keeps circling. Knowing the circle tells you in advance whether a hit is possible.
When not to use it
Don't add this check if the missile is meant to be a weak, dodgeable threat, or if it has a short fuse anyway. Simply letting it expire is simpler. It also does not apply to guided shots that can stop and hover, which have no such circle.
