Spielerando

Is this level hard for everyone, or only for people new to the game?

A low completion rate means different things if experienced players breeze through it or fail just the same. Splitting players into three groups by skill shows which it is, and so whether to teach more or to ease off.

Why this works

A level can fail for two opposite reasons: it asks for something the game never taught, or it is simply too tough. Comparing weak and strong players separates the two, because teaching helps only those who lack the skill.

When not to use it

Skip it when you have only a few players, or when your skill measure comes from the very level you are judging, which proves nothing. Without good earlier data, ask a handful of new players to play while you watch.
