A flap-to-fly game where spamming the button flings the bird into the sky
With a tap-to-flap mechanic, a fast tapper or a phone that reports taps twice gets a wildly different result from a calm one. Hand-tuned gravity cannot save it. The mistake is what a flap does to the speed. Here is the version that behaves the same for everyone.
Why this works
A flap should mean one thing every time: from here, go up like this. Setting the result, not adding to it, makes ten quick presses or a tap counted twice end in the same place, so the game cannot be broken by a nervous finger or a noisy device.
When not to use it
Skip it when the player should build up power by pushing again and again, such as a swimming or flying game where stronger effort means faster travel. Then adding makes sense, as long as you cap the top speed.
