Let fast travel be stopped by an ambush on the road

If a jump across the map just moves the player to the target, the world stands still while days pass, and ambushes, storms and festivals are skipped. Here is how to play the days of the trip through and stop the traveller exactly where the world got in the way.

Why this works

A journey that costs nothing makes the world feel painted on. If the days of travel are real days on the world clock, then whatever was due in those days really happens, and the traveller stops at the place where it found them.

When not to use it

Skip interruptions on routes the player has walked many times, or when the trip is only a menu shortcut in a calm game. Repeated ambushes on a well-known road turn into a chore; let the player pay a fee to skip them.
