Split long speech into pages that fit the text box, even with very long words

A villager's long speech runs out of the box, or a long German word pushes the line past the edge. This entry shows how to break text into lines and pages that fit, without cutting an emoji in two and without losing deliberate blank lines.

Why this works

A screen clips what does not fit, so the game must decide where the breaks go before drawing. Counting real characters, not stored pieces, keeps symbols whole, and breaking an over-long word by force is the only way a line can never overflow.

When not to use it

Skip it when your engine or page already wraps text for you and the font is set to fit, which is common in menus. Also, counting letters is only a guess for ordinary fonts where letters differ in width, so measure the real width there.
