Controller vibration that stays pleasant when many things happen at once
Each event shakes the controller on its own, and when explosions, steps and hits overlap the result is a constant buzz that players switch off. Combining them the right way and letting each fade out makes it feel precise. Here is the rule and how to handle the pause menu.
Why this works
A hand feels the loudest thing, not the sum of everything. Taking the strongest of the events at each moment keeps the order of importance, so three light taps never feel like an explosion, and fading each one out avoids sudden, harsh stops.
When not to use it
Leave out vibration for steady background things, such as footsteps or engines running all the time, which only tire the hand, and for people who play on a phone, on a keyboard or with a controller that cannot vibrate. Always offer a switch to turn it off.
