Prove a chase scene can be survived and is not too easy

A chase where every choice is secretly fatal is cruel, and one where any choice works is dull. Here is how to count the surviving sequences of moves, so you know it can be won, how forgiving it is, and what to adjust.

Why this works

A chase is only exciting if the player can lose and can also win by choosing well. Counting every sequence of moves shows whether none, a few or nearly all of them get away, which are three very different scenes.

When not to use it

Wrong for a chase that is a cutscene, or one decided by reflexes in real time, where moves are not a list of turns. There, test the speeds and distances by playing, and keep this for chases built from clear choices.
