Spielerando

Particle burst

A quick spray of sparks, dust, coins or smoke. Every particle gets its own speed, life and spin, slows down in the air and falls with gravity, and a burst is always well filled.

When you need it

For hits, explosions, pickups, footsteps, sparks and landings. Small effects like these do a lot for how good a game feels.

Say this to your AI

Use the particle burst from Spielerando so a shower of sparks flies up when my sword hits the shield, and falls back down.

Or skip this and connect the MCP: your AI then finds all of this by itself.Connect the MCP

Common questions

how do i add a particle effect to my game

On an event, make a batch of small objects at one spot, each with its own direction, speed and lifetime. Every frame, move them, shrink and fade them, and remove those that are done.

why do my particles look clumped or have gaps

Fully random directions can leave holes. Cut the circle into one slice per particle and pick a random spot in each slice. It looks random and stays evenly filled.

why do my particles look floaty

Give them a strong start speed and let the air slow them down quickly. Sparks should burst out and then hang, not drift at one speed.
