Spielerando

Let the hero survive one deadly blow, once, then pay for it

A second-chance charm sounds simple, but three arrows in the same moment can still kill the hero it just saved, and a charm that rearms too easily means nobody ever dies. This entry shows the small state that makes it feel dramatic and fair.

Why this works

A second chance only feels like one if the player can see and use it. A short protected moment lets a single volley count as one blow, and tying the return to rest makes it a decision instead of free health.

When not to use it

Do not add it to games about permanent loss, where every death must hurt, or to short arcade rounds with no rest. There a second chance cheapens the stakes; offer a revive item or a lives counter instead.
