Players who stopped still drift a little on other screens
To save data, a game sends a player's position only when it changed noticeably, which works until the player stops just short of the threshold and everyone else sees them standing in the wrong place for the rest of the game. A small extra rule fixes it. Here are the rules for when to send.
Why this works
News is only worth sending when it changes what others see. Small moves are noise, but a stop is a fact everyone needs, and a regular sign of life repairs lost messages, so each rule closes a gap the others leave open.
When not to use it
Do not save data this way when exactness matters more than the cost, such as a small game with two players on a good link. Send every step there and drop the extra rules, which only invite mistakes.
