Hand out story fragments across runs in order, without dry streaks
In a game where every run starts fresh, the story comes in pieces that drop by chance. Players get the ending piece before the beginning, or go a dozen runs with nothing new. Here is how your AI keeps the pieces in story order and guarantees that a long dry spell ends.
Why this works
Chance feels fair when it cannot go on failing for ever. A counter of misses that forces a prize once it gets long cuts off the worst luck. The story stays in order because chance decides only whether the next piece drops, never which one.
When not to use it
Skip it when the story should be told in any order and every piece stands alone, or when the player should earn pieces by doing something specific, such as beating a boss. Then give each piece to its own achievement, not to chance.
