Jumping off a ladder or vine without instantly grabbing it again

Hit jump on a ladder and the character either drops like a stone, floats up the rungs again, or sticks to the same ladder the moment it leaves. Here is what the leap must carry, how a held direction changes it, and the short rule that stops the instant re-grab.

Why this works

When you leave something you are still touching it for a moment, so the game must be told the leaving was meant. A push away from the surface plus a short pause on grabbing lets the player escape cleanly and still return at once on purpose.

When not to use it

Not needed in games where the climb is its own mode and jumping off simply drops you. Also wrong where a ladder should catch a falling player, such as a rescue ladder; there, regrabbing is the point.
