Let an ammo workshop run on its own without switching on and off every second
The base has a machine that turns scrap into bullets when the stock is low. At the border value it flips on and off every second, making noise and wasting power. This entry gives it two thresholds, one to start and one to stop, and a clean rule for running out of scrap.
Why this works
A machine that reacts at a single line flips at every tiny change. Two lines with a gap between them give it a memory: once started it keeps going until it has done enough. The gap is the space where nothing needs to happen, and it saves noise, power and attention.
When not to use it
Do not automate when the player is meant to decide each batch, as in a tense game about scarce supplies. Hand control to them there. Automation also suits poorly where the stock changes only by the machine itself, since nothing then moves it back across the line.
