Spielerando

Drop the ammo the player is running out of, more often when stocks are low

Flat drop chances give full players ammo they cannot carry and starve players who are empty. A little shaping fixes both, but two details decide whether it feels helpful or like cheating, and one of them breaks when a weapon has no magazine limit.

Why this works

A reward helps most when it answers a need. Letting drops follow what is running low keeps the player in the fight, while a small share left for full weapons keeps the help from looking like a rule they can read and exploit.

When not to use it

Skip it in survival games where scarcity is the point and running dry is meant to hurt. Helping the player there removes the tension you built. Use fixed supplies in known places, so people can plan and ration instead.
