Spielerando

Fix a hero that keeps running after you click away and come back

Hold a key, switch to another window, let go, return, and the hero runs on by itself. The game never heard the key come up. This entry gives an input keeper that releases everything when the window loses attention and tells a fresh press from a held key.

Why this works

The game only knows what it was told. When the window loses attention, the news that a key came up never arrives, so the safest guess is that everything was let go. Releasing all keys on leaving turns a lie about the keyboard into a harmless stop.

When not to use it

Skip the blanket release when the game is meant to keep going while you look elsewhere, such as a window you watch while another tool has focus. Then keep the keys, and ask the player to press again only when the game itself pauses.
